The realization hit Lilly all at once, and her cheeks turned bright red. She snapped upright in her seat, glaring at the man beside her. “You creep!”

The driver wore a mask, hiding his face, but his cold eyes glinted with a trace of amusement. “Why are you yelling at me? I haven’t done anything.”

He looked so innocent, it was almost annoying.

Lilly’s face only got redder, like she was about to steam right out of her skin. “You say you didn’t do anything, but your… you know… it is…”

“What about it?” he asked, glancing her way with a kind of lazy curiosity.

Lilly clammed up, her words dying in her throat.

Just then, Lucas stomped on the gas and caught up to them again. He couldn’t believe he was getting schooled by a taxi driver. In a Ferrari, no less.

He rolled down his window, yelling over the roar of his engine. “Pull over! Did you hear me? Pull over right now! Do you even know who I am? Mess with me, and I’ll wipe you out of the Capital!”

Lilly groaned, rubbing her temples. Lucas just would not give up. “Don’t stop the car, please.”

The driver smirked, eyes glinting. “Weren’t you just calling me names? I thought you wanted out of my car.”

“I take it back, okay?” Lilly said, swallowing her pride. Both she and Victoria were stuck here, and now was not the time to argue. “Please, just drive. Lose him, I’m begging you.”

The driver’s eyes sparkled with amusement.

Lucas was fuming. “Hey! I’m talking to you! Are you even listening? You two just going to whisper to each other? Am I invisible or something?”

Watching the driver still chatting with Lilly pushed Lucas over the edge. Was he really being ignored?

The driver just replied in a flat voice, “Annoying!”

Then he spun the wheel, turning the taxi sharply into a narrow alley.

“Shit,” Lucas cursed, yanking his wheel to follow. Suddenly, a giant truck barreled toward him, nearly colliding with his car.

The truck driver leaned on the horn, blasting it loud enough to rattle Lucas’ teeth.
