Louise glared at Joanna, her voice dripping with venom. “Are you happy now, Joanna? You stole Moss from me. You took my place as Mrs. Wade. Everything you have… it should have been mine.”
Joanna let out a cold laugh. “Louise, you’ve really lost it. You were the one chasing after my husband. You even used Castle Rock magic to hurt me. You brought this all on yourself.”
Louise stood up, slow and deliberate. “So what? Your own daughter doesn’t even like you. She’d rather be with me.”
She turned to Jessa. “Jessa, do you want Joanna as your mom?”
Jessa knew this was it. She had to choose. She walked over to Louise and stood by her side. “I don’t want her.”
Joanna’s heart shattered. Jessa was her only child with Moss, but time after time, Jessa just pushed her away, leaving her more disappointed than ever.
Jessa hadn’t grown up with them. Joanna always blamed herself for that, felt like she failed her daughter.
Now, watching Jessa choose Louise of all people, Joanna reached out, desperate. “Jessa!”
“Stop calling me,” Jessa snapped back.
Joanna faltered, stunned.
Moss reached for Joanna, pulling her close, holding her tight.
Jessa kept going. “You’re my real parents, sure, but you never loved me. You never gave me what I wanted. Louise is the only one who ever helped me. So I’m staying with her. And if anything happens to me, it’s your fault. You never did your job as parents. You’re the reason I’ve ended up like this.”
“Jessa!” Joanna’s face went pale as a ghost.
Seeing Joanna crumble, Louise felt a surge of satisfaction. This was what she wanted, to see Joanna in pain. Jessa was her perfect weapon.
Louise looked at Jessa. “Well, Jessa, who do you want as your mom?”
