“David, what are you doing? Why did you take Lola?”
“Ella, come to my office. I’m waiting.”
“I...” Ella hesitated. It was already late. The last time she’d been in his office at night, things had almost gone too far. There was no way she was making that mistake again.
But David didn’t give her a chance to say no. “Ella, Lola is here with me. If you don’t show up tonight, you won’t see her again.”
Ella’s heart jumped. “What are you talking about? Don’t say that. Lola is my daughter. What are you planning?”
David’s voice was calm but sharp. “Is she only your daughter, Ella?”
Ella froze, the question hitting her hard. She clutched her phone tighter. “David, what do you mean?”
“You tell me. Why do you sound so nervous? Are you hiding something?”
“I’m not hiding anything. Just tell me what you want to say.”
“So, is Lola only your daughter? Who’s her father?”
“David, you—”
“I’ll be waiting in my office.” He hung up before she could finish.
Ella stared at her phone, frustration bubbling up. She didn’t want to go, but she knew she had no choice. David must have found out the truth. She hurried to get dressed and rushed straight to Harmon Corporation.
Half an hour later, she pushed open the door to his office. “David, where’s Lola?”
He was behind his desk, looking as calm as ever. “Ella.”
“Where is she? I want to see her.”
