The next morning, Joanna woke up feeling like she’d been hit by a truck. Every muscle ached, her whole body sore and weak. The memories from last night rushed in, making her cheeks burn with embarrassment.
She glanced up and saw Moss’s face, still so handsome it made her heart stutter. She realized she was lying in his arms. Reaching out, she let her fingers trail along his jawline, almost in disbelief. He was as attractive as ever, maybe even more so with the years. Sometimes she really thought life was unfair. Men just seemed to get better with age, while women had it so much harder.
Lost in her thoughts, she didn’t notice Moss had woken up until he caught her hand. His eyes were still half-closed as he teased, “Didn’t get enough last night?”
Joanna shot him a glare. “Moss, how old are you? Can’t you act your age for once?”
He looked at her, a lazy smile playing on his lips. After last night, her skin was glowing and her eyes were bright, like a rose at its peak. He kissed her gently and grinned. “You didn’t seem to care about my age last night. In fact, I remember you enjoying yourself quite a bit.”
Joanna’s face turned even redder. “It’s getting late. Time to get up.”
Moss just pulled her closer. “How about we relive last night, just for a little while?”
She couldn’t believe how much energy he still had. He wasn’t exactly a young man anymore. “You need to control yourself. You’re acting like a starving wolf who finally found his dinner.”
He laughed and corrected her. “I’ve been hungry for over twenty years.”
Her eyes widened. “You mean you haven’t been with anyone all these years?”
He shook his head. “No one.”
She stared at him, suspicious. “You’re lying. What about Louise?”
“Joanna, I was drugged last night, but I still climbed out of bed to find you. Do you really think anything ever happened between Louise and me?”
Joanna felt her heart soften, even though she was still a little skeptical. She was just about to say something when Moss’s phone started to vibrate on the nightstand.
“You’ve got a call. Go ahead and answer.”
He let go of her and checked the screen. It was Jessa calling. Moss picked up. “Hey, Jessa.”
