Joanna and Louise had been at odds for years. Her relationship with Moss was just as stuck, always circling the same problems with no real solution.
Then Ella showed up. With just a few clever moves, she flipped everything upside down. Suddenly, nothing between them was the same anymore.
Ella was sharp and graceful, always knowing exactly what to say. She really was like a little angel. It was impossible not to be drawn to her.
Joanna watched Ella with a mix of gratitude and curiosity. “Ella, we’ve only met once, but you’re helping me so much. Why would you do that for me?”
Ella’s lips curled into a gentle smile. “Ms. Johnson, even though we’ve only met once, I really like you. Of course I want to help. But I should warn you, Jessa and I… well, we have some personal history. If she sees us together, she might get pretty upset.”
Joanna couldn’t help comparing her daughter to Ella. Jessa was spoiled and demanding, always asking for designer brands, never caring how much stress she caused. Ella, on the other hand, had helped treat her illness and even came up with a plan to help her.
Jessa was her own flesh and blood, but honestly, Ella put her to shame.
Joanna caught herself wishing, just for a moment, that Ella could have been her daughter instead.
“Ella, you saved my life.” Joanna’s voice was steady and full of warmth. “As long as I’m here, I won’t let Jessa take out her moods on you. I promise.”
Ella seemed to relax at that. “Thank you, Ms. Johnson. In that case, let’s just sit back and watch what happens next.”
Things were about to get interesting.
…
Moss stepped back into the villa, and Louise rushed over to greet him. “Moss, you’re back?”
Jessa hurried to follow. “Dad, welcome home.”
