Moss hit the floor, landing in a heap beside the bed.
Ella stood in the doorway, wide-eyed at the scene. The legendary Moss Wade, the king of the business world, had just been kicked out of bed by Joanna.
She couldn’t help herself. A chuckle slipped out.
Moss jumped up, barely hiding his embarrassment. He shot Joanna a cold look, then turned to Ella. “Ella, what’s so funny?”
“Sorry, Mr. Wade,” Ella said, still trying to stifle her laughter. “I’m not laughing. Well, unless I really can’t help it. Haha.”
Moss glared, silent. Wasn’t that enough laughing for one day?
Joanna looked over at Ella. “Ms. Irvine, thank you for coming.”
Ella stepped into the room, warmth in her voice. “I felt like we just clicked the moment we met. If you don’t mind, you can just call me Ella, like Mr. Wade does.”
Joanna’s lips curled into a small smile. “Alright, Ella.”
“Could you give me your hand? I’d like to check your pulse.”
Joanna reached out, and Ella’s fingers settled gently on her wrist. After a moment, Ella’s eyebrows drew together in concern.
That was the last thing Moss wanted to see. He instantly asked, “Is she alright?”
Ella glanced up. “Mr. Wade, did Ms. Johnson ever get poisoned?”
Moss nodded. “Yes.”
Joanna spoke softly, “It happened when I was pregnant with Jessa. I was poisoned, and the day I gave birth, I fell into a coma. I only woke up recently. None of the doctors could figure out what kind of poison it was.”
Ella’s voice grew serious. “Ms. Johnson, you were poisoned with something called Castle Rock Poison.”
Moss and Joanna both blurted out, “Castle Rock Poison?”
Ella nodded. “Yes. It’s a truly evil poison. Someone put it in your body. Do you have any idea who did it?”
Joanna shot Moss a look. “Isn’t it obvious? It must have been your precious girlfriend, Louise.”
