He slid back onto the bed, pulling Joanna into his arms. “Do you remember Ella?”

Joanna nodded. “Of course I do.”

“She’s an amazing doctor. You know, she’s actually Doctor E. She even got Mrs. Harmon back on her feet.”

Joanna’s eyes brightened. “Seriously? That’s incredible. I never realized Ella was so skilled. I don’t know why, but I always felt drawn to her... like there’s this feeling. But with our own daughter, Jessa, I just don’t feel that same connection.”

Moss understood. He felt it too, even if the DNA test said Jessa was theirs.

He glanced at Joanna, noticing how tired and pale she looked. “I’m going to call Ella, see if she can come check on you.”

“You think she’ll come? I’ve only met her once,” Joanna said.

“I’ll give it a shot,” Moss replied, reaching for his phone.

Joanna looked up at him. “You sure are putting in a lot of effort for your ex-wife.”

Moss tightened his hold on her. “Wanna say that again? We’re not divorced. You’re not my ex-wife. You’re Mrs. Wade.”

Joanna shot him a look and rolled her eyes.

Moss dialed Ella’s number. She picked up almost immediately, her voice clear through the phone. “Hello, Mr. Wade.”

“Hey, Ella. I was hoping you could do me a favor.”

“Of course. You’ve helped me before, so if there’s anything I can do, just say the word.”

“My wife’s not feeling well. I was hoping you could come by and take a look at her.”

Ella didn’t hesitate. “Absolutely. Where are you and Mrs. Wade? I’ll come to you.”

“I’ll send my assistant to pick you up,” Moss offered.
