The receptionist stopped in front of the CEO’s office and opened the door for him. “Ms. Johnson, Mr. Wade is here,” he announced politely.
Joanna didn’t even look up. She was sitting behind her desk in a crisp white silk blouse and a fitted black skirt, her wavy hair pinned up in a loose bun. She was signing documents with quick, confident strokes.
“Mr. Wade, please have a seat. I need one more minute to finish this,” she said, her focus never wavering from the paperwork.
Moss sat down, his eyes lingering on Joanna. Maybe it was the way the morning light caught her profile or how effortlessly she carried herself, but she looked breathtaking. He cleared his throat, trying not to stare.
The receptionist turned to him. “Would you like something to drink, Mr. Wade?”
“I’m good, thanks. You can go,” Moss replied, a bit curtly.
Once the receptionist left, Moss finally felt like he could breathe again.
Joanna finished her work, closed the folder with a snap, and finally looked up at him. “Mr. Wade, you’re here early. Does that mean the DNA test results are ready?”
Moss pressed his lips together. “So the only reason I can come see you is if I have the DNA results?”
Joanna arched an eyebrow. “Did someone irritate you this morning? You seem a little on edge.”
He couldn’t deny it. Ever since Joanna came back, their conversations all revolved around their daughter. It was like nothing else mattered.
Moss let out a short, cold laugh. “You must be in a great mood these days, surrounded by all these men. That must feel pretty good, right?”
Joanna paused, then smiled, “Are you talking about my employees?”
