Moss watched Joanna walk away, her hips swaying with such effortless confidence it almost made him laugh from frustration. She knew exactly what she was doing.
Louise reached out, wanting to wipe the blood from the corner of his mouth. "Moss, are you okay?"
But before she could touch him, Moss stepped back. "I'm going home," he said, already turning away.
Louise's hand fell uselessly to her side as he left. Alone, she dropped her gentle act. Her face twisted with anger and jealousy so sharp it almost hurt.
She hated Joanna. Hated her with everything she had.
Louise was just the driver's daughter. Her father had died saving Moss’s father, and after that, she’d been left all alone. Maybe out of gratitude or maybe guilt, Moss and his family always looked after her. They grew up together, side by side.
She had been in love with Moss for as long as she could remember. She always thought one day she’d marry him and become Mrs. Wade.
But then Moss married Joanna, just because their families wanted an alliance. Louise tried to tell herself Joanna was nothing more than a bargaining chip, that her marriage would be cold and empty. But she couldn’t have been more wrong.
Joanna was impossible to ignore. She moved into the Wade family home and immediately had Moss completely hooked.
Louise could never forget that one time, two years after their wedding. She’d been standing outside the study, and the door was open just enough for her to peek through. Moss was in his chair, piles of paperwork in front of him. Joanna was sitting on his lap, her dress strap slipping down to show off her shoulder.
Moss’s voice was low and rough. "I have a lot of work to finish tonight."
Joanna clung to him. "Stop working, babe. I want you."
"Let’s go to the bedroom," Moss said, pulling her closer.
Joanna shook her head. "I want it right here. In your study. Don’t you like it?"
Moss tilted his head back and kissed her, letting her hands slide right under his expensive shirt without a second thought.
Joanna was breathless, a little teasing. "I heard there’s a gorgeous new secretary at your office."
