David dropped the towel and made his way to the bed in just a few long strides. He stood over Ella, looking down at her. “Ella, is what she said true?”
Ella’s eyes snapped open. “No! Fiona was making it all up!”
“Liar,” David muttered under his breath. He believed Fiona.
He reached out and caught her chin, tilting her face up to meet his gaze. “Ella, you haven’t slept with anyone in three years?”
Why?
She was married to Wyatt. Why hadn’t they been together?
When Fiona first said it, the shock had hit him hard. But after that, he felt this wild rush of happiness. He never imagined Ella had spent the last three years the same way he had.
Ella protested, “I told you, Fiona was just kidding around. Don’t take her seriously.”
David shook his head. “Come on, Ella. Why would your best friend lie about something like that? Why didn’t Wyatt touch you for three years?”
“I…” She hesitated.
David didn’t let her finish. “Have you really been thinking about me all this time, Ella?”
Ella froze.
She was done for.
He’d heard it all. He believed every word. Just now, Fiona had called him rich and good-looking, and now he was acting so smug about it, even though it was true.
Ella swatted his hand away. “Mr. Harmon, I’ll say it again. Fiona was joking. We were just messing arounda.”
