Upstairs, Jessa watched with wide eyes, completely stunned. She never thought David would actually show up.
She had told Ella a hundred times not to breathe a word about this to anyone, so how did David end up here?
David turned to Ella, his voice gentle with worry. “Are you alright?”
Ella nodded. “I’m fine. You got here just in time.”
She lifted her phone, a sly smile on her face. “Surprised to see David? I’m the one who called him.”
Jessa froze. What?
Ella went on, “When we talked, you kept telling me not to let anyone else know. By ‘anyone else’, you meant David, didn’t you? You didn’t want him involved. So I told him first. That’s how you flip the script.”
Jessa was at a loss for words.
Once again, Ella had done the exact opposite of what Jessa expected, ruining all her careful plans. It felt like every time she tried to go up against Ella, she lost.
Ella’s sharp eyes swept over the private club. “David’s men have this place surrounded. You better hope they don’t find you.”
Ella hung up.
Jessa’s panic set in as she looked out and realized the club was completely locked down. Ella had set her up. This had been a trap all along.
She had to get out. Now.
Jessa melted into the shadows upstairs.
Downstairs, David reached over and buttoned Ella’s black coat for her. Ella leaned in and said, “The kidnapper is still somewhere in this club. We have to catch her tonight.”
