David glanced at his phone. The number on the screen was unfamiliar.
Aiden leaned in. “Boss, I’ve never seen that number before. Any idea who’s calling you?”
David frowned, just as clueless. He picked up the phone and answered.
A clear, familiar voice came through. “Hi, Mr. Harmon. It’s me, Ella.”
David froze. Ella? He couldn’t believe it. He never imagined she’d call him.
She had changed her number three years ago. He thought she was already gone, probably on a plane by now. Hearing from her now hit him with a rush of shock and relief.
He gripped the phone tighter, his voice shaky with emotion. “Ella, are you gone already?”
“Mr. Harmon, I was about to leave, but something happened. Lola and Mrs. Harmon got kidnapped.”
For a second, David couldn’t process her words. Someone took Lola and his mother?
He shot to his feet, voice sharp and urgent. “What did you say? Who took Lola and my mom?”
Ella quickly explained what had happened. David didn’t hesitate. “Wait for me at the airport. I’m coming right now.”
Aiden’s eyes widened. “Boss, something happened to Miss Lola and your mother?”
David’s gaze turned icy. “Someone dared to pull this stunt on my turf? Whoever it is, they’re finished. I’ll find them, no matter what.”
…
Ella waited at the airport with the maid, nerves stretched thin. Before long, David arrived, his tall, striking figure cutting through the crowd. The cold from outside followed him in, but he barely seemed to notice. “Ella!”
