The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 665

Ella scooped Lola up into her arms. “Come on, Lola, time to go.”

Lola waved her little hand at David. “Bye.”

David gave her a small smile. “Bye.”

Ella carried Lola away, disappearing down the hall. David watched them leave, his gaze lingering long after they were gone. He barely noticed Mrs. Harmon rolling up in her wheelchair until she spoke.

“David, Jessa, why are you both just standing there?”

Jessa hurried over, taking the wheelchair handles from the maid with a bright smile. “David and I were waiting for you.”

“Let’s go inside,” Mrs. Harmon said.

They settled into a private room. Once everyone was seated, Mrs. Harmon turned to Jessa. “When is your father coming home?”

Jessa smoothed her skirt, trying to sound casual. “He’s away on business, but he’ll be back in a day or two. He told me he hopes David and I can get married soon.”

Mrs. Harmon nodded. “I’ve already had someone look up some good wedding dates.” She gestured for the maid, who set a sheet of paper by David’s hand. “David, pick one of these dates for your wedding with Jessa.”

David glanced at the envelope, then looked straight at Mrs. Harmon. “I’m not marrying Jessa. I’ve told you that plenty of times.”

The room instantly went quiet. Mrs. Harmon’s face tightened. Jessa’s eyes grew glassy and hurt.

“Look at him,” Jessa said, her voice trembling just a bit. “I’ve loved David for three years. I thought if I waited long enough, he’d finally care about me. But he’s always like this. It’s really heartbreaking.”
