But she wasn’t.
Jessa clenched her jaw so tightly she could almost hear her teeth crack. Ella... Today she had flipped the script on them and even called in David to land the final blow. Jessa used to think Ella was beneath her, but now she was starting to realize just how sharp Ella really was.
She needed to come up with a plan, fast.
Pulling out her phone, Jessa dialed Grandma Jill.
…
Ella slipped back into the girls’ dorm, just as Lilly walked in.
“Lilly, did you catch up to Jace?” Ella asked.
Lilly let out a frustrated sigh. “No, he completely ignored me.”
Ella grinned. “Guess Jace isn’t so easy to win over.”
Lilly’s cheeks turned pink. “Ella, I’m not trying to win over him. Don’t tease me.”
Ella just laughed and let it go.
Then Lilly clung to Ella’s arm, her eyes wide. “Ella, how did my birthmark disappear? I’ve been thinking about it. Yesterday, you gave me that super bitter candy. Tell me the truth, it was because of that candy, right?”
Ella opened her mouth to answer, but just then there was a knock at the door.
Who could that be?
Lilly opened the door and there stood David, looking as composed and intimidating as ever.
“Mr. Harmon, what are you doing here? I was just about to find you. You need to watch out for Jessa. She’s absolutely nasty. If it weren’t for Ella, I don’t know what she would have done to me!” Lilly huffed, her tone full of fire.
