After the divorce, she acted fierce whenever she saw him, like a little kitten baring its claws, trying to scratch at his heart. It wasn’t painful, but it definitely got under his skin.
Ella crashed right into his arms and was instantly surrounded by his clean, fresh scent. She squirmed, trying to break free. “Let me go!”
David barely hesitated before pushing her onto the bed.
Her slender back landed on the soft mattress. She barely had time to get up before he was over her again. David knelt on the bed, one knee down, his hands on either side of her. He watched her, half entertained, half teasing. “So tell me, Ella. Just how tough are you?”
He was obviously making fun of her. Ella’s cheeks flushed with irritation, and she shot him a glare. “Being tough isn’t something you talk about. Just wait. You’ll see for yourself soon enough.”
That only made David’s chest tighten even more. He pinched her delicate chin. “Who are you, really, Ella?”
He truly meant it. He was starting to wonder if he’d ever known her at all. There were so many sides of her he couldn’t figure out.
His grip was a little too firm, and Ella pushed at his hand, frowning. “I’m someone you can’t have.”
David’s gaze turned darker, his sharp brows lifting a little. “Didn’t I already have you once?”
Ella glared right back. “That’s not happening again.”
Suddenly, the air between them felt charged. David remembered this bed, the way they’d been together here.
The night before their divorce, people kept walking up and down the dorm hallway. She was on top of him, biting her lip, her face red and flustered.
She’d been so nervous, so sensitive, so tight, she couldn’t relax at all.
That night replayed in his head, and now she was beneath him again. David swallowed hard and let go of her.
He stood up.
The sheets had changed since that night. No more pink hearts, it’s just a simple floral pattern.
