"Grandma, didn't you go home?" Derek looked surprised as Katelin returned.
Brittany, on the other hand, looked puzzled as she glanced between Katelin and Derek, clearly unaware that they were family.
Katelin entered the hospital room, and her gentle gaze fell upon Brittany. "You are Brittany, right?" Although it sounded like a question, it was already a confirmed fact.
Brittany couldn't believe that the person she had unexpectedly saved was Derek's grandmother! Moreover, she had previously confided in Katelin about her troubles. Brittany blushed and felt a hint of awkwardness.
Derek noticed that something seemed off between the two of them. "Grandma, do you know Ms. Dustin?"
"We have met once," Katelin's eyes showed a few traces of pity. She had read the news online and felt a strange empathy for Brittany. Seeing her now, she couldn't help but feel even more sympathetic. Brittany must have been feeling so sad after losing all her family.
Brittany felt uncomfortable under Katelin's sympathetic gaze. She didn't like being pitied. She looked at Derek and sincerely smiled, "Derek, thank you for your help this time. I'll come back another day. Take good care of yourself."
She glanced at Katelin and slowly left the room.
Outside the room, Hannah Chester had just finished a call and was about to speak when Brittany held her hand and said, "Let's go back."
Hannah was confused.
Wait a minute; she just answered a call. Why did it end so abruptly?
Brittany held Hannah's hand and walked a few meters away before explaining, "The elderly lady from last time is Derek's grandmother. I don't want to attract attention to this matter, so let's not mention it again."
Regardless of her relationship with Derek, if this matter were to be exposed and Derek turned against her, she wouldn't be able to defend herself. Besides, she only did a small favor and had no intention of taking advantage of the situation.
Hannah opened her mouth to speak, but Brittany had already walked far ahead.
She hesitated for a moment, then chased after her, "Bri, wait for me."
...
Inside the room, Katelin saw Brittany leaving and thought of chasing after her.
Derek knew his grandmother was difficult to please, and countless wealthy women had failed to win her favor. Why did she like Brittany so much?
"Ms. Dustin is beautiful and talented. Why wouldn't I like her?" Katelin said firmly, "Her own jewelry studio had only been established for a little over two months, and she had already broken the record for domestic jewelry sales. A talent like her, if I don't like her, who should I like?"
Katelin thought of her own useless grandson, and a hint of sarcasm appeared on her face. "Do you like the Field family's daughter?"
Derek stammered, "Grandma, you..."
"Derek, I warn you, the Field family is unstable right now. If you soften your heart, then don't come back."
What kind of person hadn't Katelin seen before? Loraine Field claimed to only treat Derek as a friend, but in reality, she only saw him as a backup plan and occasionally gave him some benefits. He had been deceived by her and devoted himself to serving her.
Derek began to reflect. In his grandmother's eyes, was he really so easily fooled?
Katelin left the hospital and asked her housekeeper to inquire about Donna's funeral. She wanted to attend it.
