When Katelin saw the news, she felt a heavy weight in her heart.
She felt so sorry for this Ms. Dustin she had never met.
When Derek found out that Loraine was the mastermind behind it all, he was shocked.
He remembered when he was kidnapped, the words that Brittany had said to him. He had always thought that Loraine was the victim, but it was the other way around.
He remembered Loraine as dignified, kind, and charming. But behind his back, she was setting people up and even instigating cyberbullying.
"Derek, watch out for Loraine. She's not as simple as she seems."
Katelin knew her grandson well. After the downfall of the Bishop family, she no longer held hopes for a marriage of power and wealth; all she wanted was for Derek to be happy.
Derek could like anyone, but he should never fall for someone manipulative.
Derek felt a bit awkward. After a moment of silence, he said, "I understand, Grandma."
Katelin knew that Derek was grown up, and there was no need to spell everything out for him.
Derek had lost his appetite, but he finished his soup under Katelin's watchful eyes.
Afterward, Katelin took the thermal flask and left slowly. She had been feeling uneasy lately. As if something was slowly awakening from the depths of her heart and beginning to stir.
Just as Katelin was about to board the elevator, she turned around and saw a familiar face.
Brittany also noticed and looked up. It was the same Katelin she had met before.
Katelin recognized Brittany and left the elevator, walking over to her. "Why are you in the hospital?"
"I got injured a few days ago," Brittany forced a smile, looking a bit pale.
Katelin saw the bandage on her arm and felt a pang in her heart.
"What's your name?"
They had run into each other twice in the vast sea of people, both times in the hospital, which made Katelin feel a certain fondness for Brittany.
Hannah looked at Katelin, finding her familiar but couldn't place her.
Brittany, because of her past experiences, didn't want to have any contact with Katelin.
She forced a smile and said, "I have to go."
"Bri, my brother is calling; wait for me."
Brittany signaled her to answer the phone and went to knock on Derek's door.
Derek heard the sound and looked over. Seeing Brittany standing at the door, he instinctively wanted to get up, but it hurt his wound. He gasped in pain and immediately lied back down.
"If you can't get out of bed, stay still."
Brittany walked into the room and saw the bandage on Derek's ear. She sincerely said, "Derek, thank you."
Derek was a bit confused by the 'thank you,' and it took him a moment to reply, "I should be the one thanking you. You held the man back. Are you all right?"
Brittany's head and hand were bandaged, and the wound on the corner of her mouth hadn't healed completely.
Derek thought about how she had spent hours at the mercy of those people and didn't dare to think about what she had been through.
Brittany felt his gaze and was about to speak that Isaac arrived just in time and nothing had happened.
Katelin's voice came from behind, sounding a bit surprised, "Derek, you know this lady?"
