Belinda squeezed Adelina’s hand, her voice full of conviction. “Come back to Cabinda with me. Trust me, as long as I stand firm, he’ll have no choice but to marry you.”
Lance had promised her, after all.
Adelina was only pretending to back down, hoping to get what she wanted by playing hard to get. She had never planned to really walk away. But with Belinda pushing her now, she couldn’t say no. “Alright... should I book the tickets now?”
“Do it. The sooner we’re back in Cabinda, the better.”
Belinda could see the reluctance in Adelina’s eyes and added, “Don’t worry about Catherine’s baby. I’ll handle it.”
Adelina didn’t dare ask any more questions. She just pulled out her phone and started looking for the next flight home.
That same day, Belinda took Adelina back to Cabinda herself, personally delivering her to the Green family’s house. Before leaving, she gave Adelina one piece of advice.
“Stay home and wait. Let Lance come to you when he’s ready.”
The words settled something inside Adelina, helping her finally breathe a little easier. When it came to her marriage to Lance, nobody was more supportive than Belinda.
After leaving the Green family’s house, Belinda went straight to SilverLeaf Industries.
Aaron had just wrapped up a meeting and was dragging himself back to his office, completely drained. When he saw Belinda sitting on his sofa, he froze, a chill running down his spine.
“Belinda?”
She sat up straight and pointed to the spot beside her. “Come over here. I need to ask you something.”
Aaron’s heart started pounding, a wave of anxiety washing over him. He walked over and sat down, suddenly not sure where to look.
“After Catherine and Lance divorced, she transferred to a branch office. Did Lance ever go there? Did they ever meet up in private?”
Aaron shook his head. “Once I drop Lance off at home, I’m done for the day. I don’t keep track of where he goes after that.”
“So you’re saying it’s possible they met in private?”
Belinda was clearly desperate for a straight answer, but Aaron couldn’t give her one. “I didn’t say that. Belinda, if you really want to know, you should just ask Lance.”
Hearing his answer, Belinda felt a bit more certain that Aaron truly didn’t know. She thought for a moment, then said, “I want you to check where Catherine went the month she got pregnant. See if she met with Lance. Don’t overlook anything.”
Now that Lance had stopped looking into it, Belinda was picking up the investigation herself. Aaron felt his head spinning, but he tried to keep his cool. “Do you really think the baby is Lance’s? And if it is, what are you going to do about it?”
