Lorinda perked up right away. “Hang on, let me jot down a list first.”
Catherine just laughed and shook her head. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll order whatever I can online, and if I can’t, I’ll pick it up myself. You should just spend more time with Jasper. There’s so much flu going around, and you really don’t want him catching anything.”
Last time Jasper got sick, the poor little guy was miserable, and Lorinda was even worse. Calling her frantic would be putting it mildly. She spent those days either blaming herself for not taking care of Jasper well enough or panicking that he had some horrible illness.
“I… I was about to start my period then. Don’t tease me. You’ll understand once you have your own baby,” Lorinda admitted, looking embarrassed as she thought back on it.
Catherine teased her a little more, then pulled up her checklist and started shopping online. For the bigger things, like a crib or formula, she figured it was better to buy them in person.
…
“Lance, is there something wrong?”
Letty set down a fresh cup of coffee in front of him and started going over his schedule, but he didn’t reply. He’d taken a sip, then just sat there, completely still.
He finally glanced her way and put the cup down. “Did you make this coffee?”
Letty nodded. When he didn’t say anything, she rushed to explain, “I’ve never ground coffee beans before, so it’s definitely not as good as Catherine’s. I’ll keep practicing, though. I’ll get it right.”
“She taught you?” Lance’s face gave nothing away.
Letty nodded again.
“What else did she tell you?”
She pulled a little notepad from her pocket and flipped through the pages. “Catherine said you only drink iced coffee, and you like lighter meals. She also told me your stomach can be sensitive, so I should keep medicine handy, just in case…”
Honestly, Lance hadn’t even realized some of these things about himself until Catherine mentioned them.
