The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 427

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to let her go. He just couldn’t.

Two million dollars. To Lance, that was way more than Catherine was worth.

Catherine’s face went even paler, despite her best efforts to hide it.

“I’m sorry for dragging you into this again. I’ll call Fiona and tell her I don’t want the money,” she said quietly.

She’d rather walk away without a cent than stay tangled up in this mess.

Lance’s eyes, always sharp and intense, darkened even more. “Catherine, you really know how to get into people’s heads. You’re all the way out here, and Fiona’s still worrying about you. Do you really think she’ll just let it go?”

He wasn’t lying, but the truth stung. It made it sound like Catherine was plotting, like she’d done it on purpose.

“Lance, you can just tell Fiona you gave me the two million. I won’t say a word,” Catherine replied, hating how every conversation with him turned into a battle.

Every word with Lance felt like a knife twisting in her chest. Even the smallest exchange hurt more than she’d ever admit.

“Do you really think you can fool her?” he asked.

Catherine already knew how stubborn Fiona could be. She didn’t need Lance to remind her. It was a dead end, a trap with no escape. She was stuck, and there was nothing she could do about it.

“Alright, thanks for everything, Lance. I’ll start my maternity leave today,” she said, giving in at last.

She’d taken most of her things home earlier, so now she just grabbed a small trinket from her desk and left.

Letty walked her to the door. “Lance said I’ll be filling in for you starting today. I’ll handle meetings and his schedule for now.”

“That’s good for you,” Catherine said, glancing at her phone to check the ride she’d ordered. While they waited, she gave Letty a few tips. “Lance really hates being late, so remind him about everything ten minutes ahead of time. He always wants an iced Americano, even in winter. He likes freshly ground coffee, too. I’ve got the link for his favorite coffee beans—I’ll send it to you. Just buy them and get the finance team to reimburse you…”

She knew all of Lance’s habits by heart.
