The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 429

Catherine wanted to get all the baby stuff sorted before she hit her third trimester. She picked a day just for shopping at the mall. Lorinda was supposed to come with her, but right as they were about to leave, Jasper started fussing and ended up bumping his head.

Catherine told Lorinda to stay home instead. To her surprise, Lorinda agreed without a fuss. It wasn’t until Catherine stepped outside and saw Gavin’s car parked by the curb that she realized why Lorinda had given in so easily.

“Catherine, where are you off to? Come on, I’ll give you a lift!” Gavin called out, raising the roof on his convertible and waving at her. “Today, I’m your personal driver.”

She stopped in front of his flashy car. “You already know where I’m going, don’t you?”

Gavin scratched his nose, a little sheepish. “See, even Lorinda treats me more like a friend than you do. I’m bored at home, you know. If you need anything, just call me.”

“If you’re that bored, maybe go back to Cabinda. I’m on maternity leave now, so there’s really nothing for you to help with.”

Every time she walked past his place, Gavin would pop out to say hello. She didn’t know how he wasn’t exhausted from always keeping an eye on her, but honestly, she felt tired just thinking about it.

“Alright, alright. Get in, I’ll go to the mall with you. I’ll be out of your hair in a couple of days anyway.” Gavin walked around and opened the passenger door for her.

Catherine just got in. She buckled up and canceled her rideshare.

“I heard Lance gave you maternity leave?” Gavin asked once they were on the road.

“Yeah.”

“Even government jobs don’t let you off this early. What’s Lance thinking?”

“If you’re so curious, ask him yourself.”

Gavin made a face. “No way. I don’t know what’s up with him lately. He’s been going after Golden Horizon’s projects left and right. My dad called just to tell me not to mess with him right now.”

Lance seemed to have it out for Gavin lately. Sometimes he’d snatch up Golden Horizon’s projects just to annoy the Main family, and then things would be quiet for a bit. The projects weren’t even that important—it was more about making a point.

Gavin headed straight for the underground parking lot. As he turned a corner, the car suddenly jolted and a harsh screech echoed through the garage. In his rearview mirror, he caught sight of a big vehicle, smoke pouring from it, slammed right into the back of his car.

Catherine waited by the elevator on the third floor, but Gavin still hadn’t shown up. She turned and walked into the nearest baby store.

A saleswoman greeted her right away. “Hi, welcome. Is there something I can help you with?”

“I’m looking for a crib,” Catherine said. She’d already noticed a few in the window. The cribs were made of natural wood, polished until they were smooth and beautiful, with unique designs. Up close, the craftsmanship was even more impressive.

The saleswoman started describing the crib in detail, saying it was hand-carved from imported wood, and all the other selling points. Catherine had already checked it out online, but wanted to see it in person before deciding. Standing there, she thought it looked perfect and decided to buy it right away.

“This is the last one we have in stock,” the saleswoman told her. “The next shipment won’t be here for at least three months. This model is a bestseller in all our stores.”
