“I swear, I’m really not here to stir up drama. I’m just worried about you.” Gavin held up three fingers, looking more serious than she’d ever seen him. “That baby growing inside you… it’s a life. You’re connected, you know? He’s got half your blood in his veins. If you give him up, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life. I shouldn’t have treated this like a joke before. I’m here now because I want to protect you. If you need anything, just say the word.”
He tapped his chest, almost like he was making a promise.
When Gavin got serious, his ridiculously handsome face looked surprisingly sincere.
Catherine just replied, “Thanks.”
It wasn’t that she didn’t believe Gavin. She just didn’t need his help.
“Why are you still so skinny?” Gavin asked, sounding genuinely concerned, but there was a hint of disappointment in his voice when Catherine didn’t warm up to him.
She glanced out the window. “I’m fine. My friend will be back soon. We need to eat and get back to work.”
Gavin set the flowers down on the table and stood up. “Alright, I won’t bother you. You still have my number, right? Call me if you need anything.” He mimed making a phone call before heading out, nearly bumping into Letty as she came back with her bubble tea.
Letty paused, giving him a curious look before returning to her seat.
“Why do I feel like I’ve seen that guy somewhere before?” she wondered out loud.
Catherine handed her a pair of chopsticks. “Eat up. If you wait any longer, your food will get cold.”
Letty grinned, took the chopsticks, and started eating, washing it down with big sips of her drink.
About half an hour later, after they finished eating, Catherine reached for the bill.
As she was about to pay, the server stopped her. “Miss, a gentleman already took care of it.”
“Was it Gavin?” Catherine asked.
The server nodded. “Yes. He wanted us to remind you to take care of yourself and eat regularly.” She gave Catherine a knowing look, her tone playful. “Is he your boyfriend or just a suitor?”
Catherine put away her phone. “He’s my creditor.”
