The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 266

He managed to keep it together in the end.

Half an hour later, Aaron walked back in.

“Lance, I’ve dug it up. The kid’s medical records are fake. Every cent Catherine sent to the hospital actually ended up in the orphanage director’s account. I’m pretty sure the director used the kid as a way to scam Catherine out of her money.”

No one would ever expect an orphanage director to pull something like that.

Aaron hesitated, then added, “And Catherine’s friend, Lorinda, she’s given everything she has too.”

“What’s happening now?” Lance’s brows pulled together.

He’d only met Amanda once.

That weekend, Catherine went to help out at the orphanage on her day off. On her way back, it started pouring and her car broke down. She didn’t want to be late for work the next morning, so she called him. It was the first time she’d ever called him for help with something personal since they got married.

He’d driven out to pick her up. Amanda had walked Catherine out with an umbrella, shielding her from the rain.

The downpour was relentless. Catherine’s pants were soaked and stuck to her long, slender legs. He couldn’t look away from her.

But even then, he’d felt Amanda watching him. Her stare lingered, making him uncomfortable.

“Now the orphanage director is demanding another two hundred thousand for the surgery. He’s telling Catherine and Lorinda to come up with the money. Catherine’s finally realizing something’s off, so things are at a standstill.”

Lance’s face was clouded with frustration.

He knew Catherine sent money to the orphanage every month, helping cover the kids’ expenses. The kids really were pitiful, but that director was like a leech. It was sickening.

He’d overheard Catherine on the phone before. It was always the director, getting on her case for money when she hadn’t sent it on time.

“Keep an eye on this. Tell me the second anything changes.”

Aaron nodded quickly, not daring to say more. He was scared Lance would start asking again about whose baby Catherine was carrying and what he’d found out.

The office went quiet.
