The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 267

Lorinda sat behind the wheel, her face all serious and thoughtful, eyes glinting like she knew something no one else did. Catherine actually thought Lorinda had figured it out, that she’d guessed what was on her mind.

But then Lorinda just said, “If you don’t have to give that money to Patty anymore, listen to me. Use the rest to get your head checked at the hospital.”

Catherine looked away, not wanting to meet those so-called wise eyes. She could already feel her blood pressure rising.

Lorinda, meanwhile, decided she must be off her game today. Maybe it was the driving, but she just wasn’t picking up on Catherine’s hints. “Come on, just tell me… What is it?” She kept pestering Catherine the whole way, but Catherine stayed quiet.

She didn’t want to say anything unless she was sure. Right now, it was all just a hunch. And Amanda, well, she was complicated. Her sharp tongue and prickly personality made her hard to like, but she’d given so much to the orphanage over the years, working herself to the bone without complaint. If Catherine got it wrong and accused her of something, it would break Amanda’s heart.

By evening, there was still no word from Harrell. Catherine was getting restless, so she finally sent him a message.

He replied right away. “Just got back to Cabinda, don’t know many people here. Lance agreed to help, so you can reach out to him directly.”

Catherine froze. She hadn’t spoken to Lance in ages, not since her job transfer. Without their daily office run-ins, things between them felt distant, almost awkward. Calling him out of the blue about this? It made her palms sweat just thinking about it.

But she sucked it up and dialed his number anyway. The phone rang and rang, just about to time out, when he finally picked up.

He sounded busy. “Yeah?”

“Lance, I’m calling about Patty. The thing Harrell asked you to help with,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

“Aaron found something. Come by the office tomorrow morning and pick it up.” His voice was cold, detached, like he couldn’t care less.
