Sybil was making it clear: she wasn’t going to help, and she wasn’t about to offend Hank for the sake of a movie star.
The call ended.
Flavia’s nails dug into her palm. She couldn’t swallow the bitterness. Instead of leaving, she sat down on the sofa outside the CEO’s office.
Not long after, several staff members approached carrying trays of exquisite, expensive pastries. Flavia’s eyes lit up. “Are those for me?”
“They’re not,” one of them said with a smile. “They’re for the young lady. Mr. Lonsdale was worried she came in a hurry and didn’t have lunch, so he asked us to prepare these.”
“Wait.” Flavia blinked hard. “The young lady?”
Her mind raced, and she finally remembered something Sybil had complained about before—the Lonsdales’ only direct-blood heiress, the one who’d been missing, had recently been found and brought back to Serenity Manor. That girl… was the one she’d just seen?
Flavia watched the pastries get delivered inside, her thoughts turning complicated.
A little later, the door opened and Loyce stepped out.
Flavia sprang up and blocked her path, forcing an awkward smile. “I’m sorry, Ms. Lonsdale. I didn’t recognize you earlier.”
Loyce recognized her too—Flavia Lattimore, the red-hot actress plastered across movie posters and streaming thumbnails. Rumor had it she’d starred as the lead in a Logan Ludlow’s film. And Sybil was composing music for a new project that was still in development.
Such a mall world. Loyce extended her hand first. “I’m Loyce.”
Flavia grabbed it quickly, introduced herself, then tested the waters. “Is Hank… free right now?”
“He has a meeting in ten minutes,” Loyce said. “You have ten minutes to talk to him.”
Flavia froze. “What? He agreed?”
Loyce’s mouth curved slightly. “I mentioned there was a lady outside who’d been waiting a long time. I suggested he see you.”
Flavia’s expression turned instantly bright, almost giddy. “Sweetheart, give me your number. If you ever want concert tickets, premieres, anything, tell me. I’ll get you in.”
“Sure,” Loyce said, exchanging contact info before leaving.
Flavia couldn’t believe it. Sybil couldn’t move Hank an inch, but Loyce could—with one sentence. That alone proved how much weight this newly returned heiress carried in the Lonsdale family.
Inside Hank’s office earlier, Loyce had asked if she could participate in the research for “Whole-Organ Regeneration & Immune-Compatible Transplantation System.” Hank assumed she was just curious and agreed that once the research team was formed and the first round of funding landed, she could visit the lab.
