"I certainly came close," Thane said, taking a few steps toward her. He looked down, a mocking smirk curling on his lips. "But thanks to you, I got a second chance to re-evaluate my life choices."
Sybil's mind was completely scrambled. She couldn't process what was happening. "But... but we were kidnapped! The kidnappers said they were going to kill you! How are you alive? How is this possible!?"
"It was fake. From beginning to end," Thane replied, chuckling darkly as he watched her panic over his survival. "It was a test designed by my parents and my friends. If you genuinely loved me instead of just chasing money and status, you would have dropped Carl in a heartbeat to save me. My family was ready to welcome you with open arms. They were going to support you and let us run the family business together—but sadly, you made the wrong choice."
Thinking back to what had happened on the ship, Thane couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity. "The moment you heard those fake rumors on the yacht, you threw me away without a second thought and started flirting with Carl. You never loved me. You only loved my money. You just wanted to use me, which is why it was so incredibly easy for you to let the 'kidnappers' kill me."
"N-No, that's not true." Sybil stumbled to her feet, desperate to reject reality. Trembling, she pulled out her phone and dialed Carl's number, only to find that it had been disconnected earlier that day.
"The number you have dialed is no longer in service."
The automated voice shattered the last fragments of Sybil's sanity.
"Carl! Why isn't his phone connecting?!" Sybil dialed again and again, frantically sending messages, only to realize that every single one of his social media accounts had been deleted. He had completely vanished into thin air.
A suffocating darkness swallowed her whole.
She stood frozen, her blood running cold, her chest tight as she struggled to breathe.
Loyce watched the meltdown in silence as Alicia hurried down the hallway to catch up. Loyce spoke calmly.
"Carl really is a plastic surgeon. He has status and money. But do you think a man like him lacks access to beautiful women? A surgeon who has literally sculpted countless top-tier beauties—do you think there's any trick he hasn't seen? The little games you tried to play with him are the exact same ones a hundred other girls have already tried."
"Sybil, are you really this naive? Or were you just so desperate to climb out of your mess that you threw basic common sense out the window?" Loyce's tone was flat, but every word felt like a knife.
"You were raised as the heiress to the wealthiest family in the country. If you had just stopped to think for one second, you would have realized it was the most obvious trap in the world. Unfortunately, your obsession with power and money completely blinded you, and you leaped right in without a second thought."
