She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 435

"And they invited us because...?" Loyce grabbed her bag from the back of the chair and headed toward the door.

Gordon thought for a moment. "Someone probably tipped them off. Over the years, the Shapiro family's foundation has grown incredibly solid. That old fox Zeke handed all the military and business operations over to Lucian, and Lucian has balanced them perfectly. You could say he's the first person to truly shatter the boundaries between politics and commerce."

"Life abroad probably wasn't cutting it for them anymore," Gordon half-joked. "Lucian's parents came back to squeeze some money out of him. Anyway, it's Shapiro family drama, so it has nothing to do with us. We're just going for a nice dinner, and it's a good chance for me to properly introduce you to society."

Loyce hummed in acknowledgment, then asked, "Are my brothers going?"

"Only Morris. Forrest recently went into the mountains to mine, and Hank ran off overseas to handle his mafia stuff and labs. They're all incredibly busy."

Loyce was confused. "Mining? What kind of mine requires him to go personally?"

"I don't really get it. It seems to be an unexplored mineral vein. He's been obsessed with pushing the tech chip industry forward, so he's been swamped for a while," Gordon explained.

A flash of anxiety suddenly appeared on Loyce's face. "An unexplored mountain range? Did he take a professional team with him?"

"Of course. He wouldn't risk his life over nothing," Gordon reassured her. "Don't worry, Loyce. Your brother may be a workaholic, but he values his life."

Loyce knew better than anyone that Forrest was the busiest person in the family. She talked to him on the phone far more often than she saw him in person; he carried an immense amount of pressure on his shoulders.

But nobody understood the sheer peril of rushing into an unexplored mineral vein better than she did. Back when she discovered that uranium mine, the surrounding rocks were loaded with radioactive toxins. She had suffered multiple severe poisonings. Luckily, she had a full medical kit with her and was able to synthesize the specific antidotes on the spot. Otherwise, the consequences would have been catastrophic.

Just thinking about it made her eye twitch with unease. After hanging up with her grandfather, she immediately dialed Forrest's number, but the call went straight to an automated message stating the number was out of the service area.

If he had actually ventured deep into the mountains, unless he used a satellite phone to broadcast his location, not even God could find him.

Loyce pushed down her rising anxiety, forcing herself to relax. Her brother was brilliant and capable; he wouldn't let anything happen to himself.

That evening.

The Shapiro family estate was brilliantly lit and bustling with guests. The soft lighting illuminated the elegant, antique furniture, yet the underlying atmosphere was remarkably tense.
