Clayton took Loyce and Giselle to a fondue place he frequented. As fate would have it, they passed by a private room where the Ace Class teachers were having a staff dinner.
When a waiter opened the door to deliver a dish, one of the teachers spotted him and immediately got up to greet him.
“Mr. Clayton! Fancy seeing you here!” two male teachers exclaimed as they stepped out. “Why don’t you join us? We just sat down.”
Clayton waved them off. “Not today. I’m here to treat my personal savior to a meal, so I can’t join you.”
“Savior?” The teachers’ gazes shifted to Loyce, recognizing the young woman from the recent news.
One of them insisted, “That’s fine, just join our table! The more, the merrier. We were just discussing how many students might make it into the Ace Class after this month’s exam.”
Giselle’s eyes lit up at the mention of the Ace Class.
Loyce noticed her expression. Just as Clayton was about to refuse again, she cut in smoothly, “Let’s just eat together. It’s a hassle to get a separate table, and I don’t mind.”
Relieved, Clayton gestured for her to enter the room first.
Seeing their superior’s deferential treatment of Loyce, the teachers in the room adjusted their attitudes, making sure not to slight her.
The private room was filled with steam, and the spicy red broth bubbled with an enticing aroma.
Clayton had the waiter add a seat for Loyce right next to him, and he sat on her other side.
“Loyce, you have to try this. It’s their house specialty,” he said, eagerly serving her.
The other teachers exchanged bewildered glances.
Tedd, the math teacher, couldn’t help but ask, “Mr. Clayton, this is…?”
“Oh, this is Loyce! She’s the one who cured my chronic neck pain. Her medical skills are incredible! Youth is truly a force to be reckoned with,” Clayton introduced her with a broad smile. “And this is Giselle, one of our students. On the way here, I learned she’s been getting tutoring from Loyce.”
The teachers nodded politely, though they were all thinking the same thing: it was bizarre to see the principal being so respectful to a young doctor.
“Giselle?” Felix, the physics teacher, suddenly recalled. “Weren’t you ranked somewhere in the two hundreds on the last monthly exam?”
Their grade level only had four hundred students in total.
Giselle paused, her fork hovering over her plate as her cheeks flushed. “Yes, but I’m working hard to catch up.”
