Loyce calmly scooped a spoonful of the pudding into her mouth, her eyes fixed on Cyrilla. "The trash? I don't understand. You came from a humble background yourself. You know how hard your own mother works. How can you so carelessly waste the heartfelt effort of another person's mother? Don't you feel any guilt?"
The question caught Cyrilla off guard. She scrambled to defend herself. "I didn't waste it! I told you, it was spoiled! Loyce, why are you making false accusations against me?"
"Cyrilla," Lucian said suddenly, his voice as cold as ice. "How did your classmate get home last night?"
Cyrilla froze. "I... I had the driver take them home."
"I don't like lies," Lucian stated, tasting a bit of the pudding. It was immediately clear to him that there was nothing wrong with it.
He turned to the girl, whose face had gone deathly pale. "I drove Giselle home myself. Her mother was kind enough to host us, and her food was perfectly fine."
Cyrilla unconsciously twisted the hem of her clothes. The air in the dining room grew thick and still; even the butler seemed to be holding his breath.
"I... I just..." Cyrilla's eyes filled with tears, and her voice trailed off.
Lucian said only one thing. "You've seen the glamour of Metropia now, but I expect you to remember where you came from."
Cyrilla lowered her head. "I'm sorry, Lucian. It was my other friend who said Giselle's food was spoiled. I believed her without thinking. I was wrong. It will never happen again."
Lucian ignored her. He could already feel the effects of the 'Frost Peppermint' in the pudding, a refreshing clarity spreading through his mind.
Seeing Lucian dismiss her, Cyrilla shot a hateful glare at Loyce, then left for school without finishing her breakfast.
After breakfast, Loyce rested for an hour before immersing herself once again in her research on the system upgrade.
...
At school, Cyrilla, who had been perfectly friendly with Giselle the day before, now gave her the cold shoulder.
