She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 231

Giselle nodded vigorously. "Yes!"

Lucian added, "I'll inform the butler to make the arrangements."

That night, Loyce went to inspect the patch of 'Frost Peppermint' that Emma was cultivating. The mint was planted along the bank of a stream on the homestead. The stream was fed by a natural spring, and the soil looked perfectly normal—conditions that should have made it impossible to grow 'Frost Peppermint'.

As Loyce knelt to touch a leaf, Emma stopped her. "Don't touch it with your bare hands. The insects in this area are terrible. Every time I come to till the soil or fertilize, my hands break out in welts."

"Welts?"

"Yes, and sometimes they get infected."

Loyce withdrew her hand. She didn't see any of the companion plants that normally grew alongside 'Frost Peppermint', which were always highly toxic. However, if the soil itself was toxic, that would explain it.

"I see," she said. "I'll come back to harvest it when I need it."

...

By the time Loyce left Giselle's house, the sky was already beginning to lighten. Still, she showed no signs of fatigue as Lucian drove her away.

"Back to the Lonsdale estate?" he asked.

"Your place," Loyce replied. "I'll be staying there for a while."

Lucian pressed his lips together. "It seems I owe you quite a lot."

Loyce leaned her head against her hand, letting the cool morning breeze wash over her face as she breathed in the fresh air. "And?" she responded lazily.

Lucian's deep voice, carried on the wind, was laced with an alluring ambiguity. "I have no way to repay you, so I suppose I'll just have to offer myself."

Loyce shot him a sideways glance and let out a soft chuckle. "Oh."

After a moment of silence in the car, Lucian changed the subject. "What is this 'Frost Peppermint'? Is it really worth all this effort?"

"When I was researching your neurological condition, I ran countless experiments and found that I was missing a key compound to stimulate the nervous system," Loyce explained. "It's a compound found in 'Frost Peppermint'. Even when simply ingested in food, its components can make a person feel refreshed and clear-headed, dramatically increasing their mental focus and neural sensitivity. It will be very beneficial for you."

Lucian's hands suddenly tightened on the steering wheel, then relaxed slightly. "So, this is for me."

"I told you I would cure you," Loyce said, turning to look at him. The morning light illuminated her face, tracing her delicate features. Her eyelashes seemed almost transparent in the sun, but her eyes held a deep, unwavering resolve.

Lucian tore his gaze away. If he kept looking at her, he was afraid he'd get lost in her eyes and drive the car straight into a ditch.
