She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 23

Loyce’s eyes went flat. “Just because you’ve never touched that level of research doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.”

The argument was about to explode when the elevator doors opened. Lucian stepped out with a beautiful woman in a white coat.

Quiana’s eyes lit up when she saw Sapphire Walsh. Then she immediately turned aggrieved. “Sapphire, you’re here. Perfect timing.”

Sapphire deliberately stopped in step with Lucian, making it look like the two of them were close. In a gentle voice, she asked, “What’s wrong? Is the compound ready? Don’t keep Lucian waiting.”

Lucian looked at Loyce standing alone off to the side and, for some reason, thought of how she’d been targeted at school. The girl clearly had real talent, yet she never seemed to be understood.

He strode over and stopped beside her. His tall frame shifted slightly forward, as if shielding her.

“The compound is a problem,” he said in a low voice—flat, certain, without even a hint of doubt.

It was the first time Loyce had been trusted like that. Her gaze flickered. She nodded. “Yeah. It’s fake. I’ve never seen Nexo-7 this color. It looks like someone mixed it blindly.”

Lucian’s presence was intimidating. Quiana panicked about her image and burst into angry tears. “Loyce! Stop making things up! Are you trying to ruin my future?”

Byron looked like he was about to pass out from anger. He stepped up and gripped her shoulders, then turned on Loyce with a cold voice. “Are you done? This isn’t a joke!”

Loyce said evenly, “High-purity Nexo-7 is toxic if it isn’t treated. It can’t be used.”
