After a moment, Loyce averted her gaze and calmly walked over to take Lester's empty seat. She gestured for the attendant following her to place one hundred million dollars' worth of chips on the table. Tapping a manicured nail against the felt, she fixed her mesmerizing eyes on Serpent. “This looks interesting. Let me play a round.”
The celebrity dealers in the casino were all glamorous, but they paled in comparison to the woman before him. Serpent stared, momentarily entranced, and even straightened his suit jacket. “If the lady wants to play, we can start a new game. A small one, so I can teach you the ropes. We wouldn’t want you to lose too much at once and end up like the gentleman at your feet.”
He shot a look at his subordinates. “What are you waiting for? Get Mr. Sampson out of here and notify his family to pay up. If the money doesn’t arrive, break his arms.”
“No, don’t!” Lester thrashed against their grip. “I need my hands for racing! Let me go! Let me go! I can still win!”
Just then, Loyce reached out and placed a hand on Lester’s arm. “Why make things so complicated?” she said calmly. “Let’s just double the stakes from this hundred-million-dollar pot. What do you say?”
Her words sent a shockwave through the room, followed by a ripple of laughter and whispers.
“Is this woman crazy? Doubling a hundred-million-dollar game?”
“Look at her, she’s so delicate. I bet she can’t even tell a full house from a flush.”
“Tsk, tsk. Another clueless rich girl here to throw away her money. Let’s watch her bankrupt her family’s business.”
A middle-aged man in a loud floral shirt, a cigar dangling from his lips, spoke up mockingly. “Little girl, this isn’t your playground. Serpent just won three hundred million last month. Your hundred million won’t even make a splash.”
A shrill female voice cut in from a corner. “Putting on airs, are we? Don’t come crying when you’ve lost it all!”
Serpent’s men laughed openly. “Boss, I think this chick has a thing for you! She’s here to deliver money right into your hands!”
Serpent’s eyes narrowed, his fingers drumming on his pile of chips. “Take my advice, miss. Why don’t we find a quiet, private room… where I can teach you… slowly?” He licked his lips suggestively.
