Loyce merely glanced at him, her voice cool. “I’m buying you time, aren’t I? Or would you rather they drag you off to have your hands chopped off right now?”
Lester, believing her, quickly lowered his head and started messaging his family. He knew the Sampsons alone couldn’t get them out of this mess. After a moment of frantic thought, he recalled a potential business deal with Keegan Vaughn to take on a project from the Lonsdale family; the Sampsons had a record of Forrest’s assistant, Eric’s number.
Lester immediately texted Byron, telling him to contact Eric at once.
When Byron received the message, he felt like his head was about to explode. He couldn’t believe Lester had been so reckless. He frantically called Eric, making sure to emphasize that Loyce was at the casino, gambling with hundreds of millions.
As Forrest’s assistant in Metropia, Eric knew this was serious. “Our boss is on his way to Engloria for a business trip,” he said urgently. “Morris and Hank are also out of the country. We can’t let Mr. Gordon know about this; his health has been poor lately.”
Byron’s voice was filled with despair. “Then what do we do? Loyce is the only blood heiress of the Lonsdale family, right? You can’t just abandon her!”
Hank was busy with some underworld business, and Morris was doing charity work overseas. With the core members of the Lonsdale family unable to return immediately, Eric decided he had no choice but to report the situation to Forrest.
“Byron told me that Ms. Lonsdale doesn't know how to gamble. She could lose the hundred million and then some. Boss, should I take some money and head over there to bail her out?”
Forrest frowned on the other end of the line. “Loyce never does anything she isn't sure of. There must be a reason for this. Let her play. Take as much money as she needs. Our family can afford whatever she loses.”
After hanging up, Forrest considered Loyce’s safety. After a moment’s thought, he remembered Lucian, who had been in Metropia recently. Though he knew Lucian had feelings for his sister, Forrest also trusted his character. If things went south, he was the only one who could get Loyce home safely.
