"Well, look who it is. We have quite the audience today," Evelyn sneered.
Seeing her approach, Jane frantically pleaded, "Miss Sinclair, about the banquet... it was entirely my fault. I apologize. You can hit me, curse at me—whatever you need to do to vent your anger, I'll take it!"
"I'm not going to hit you, and I'm not going to curse at you," Evelyn replied haughtily. "I just want you to compensate me for the millions that dress cost. Now leave."
Jane bit her lip so hard it started to bleed.
"But... but I can't afford it..." She forced the humiliating words out of her throat.
"Hahahaha! Max, did you hear that? She can't afford it!" Evelyn laughed mockingly. "Typical small-town trash. If you don't have the status, don't try to play with the big dogs. Now you're just out here acting pathetic."
Eager to please his girlfriend, Max quickly joined in. "Exactly. Asking her for millions is letting her off easy. Trying to track down an exact replica of that dress would cost far more than just cash!"
Jane clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms, and briefly met Evelyn and Max's cruel gazes.
Today was the darkest moment of her life.
She had never been bullied so ruthlessly.
"However..." Evelyn paused, her eyes shifting to Elena, and a wicked smile touched her lips. "You could always ask Elena for help. You two are cousins, right?"
"Oh, that reminds me! Remember when Claire Whelan ruined my shoes? Those were from LUMEN Studio, too. But Elena here actually managed to track down an exact replica to pay me back. And those were a limited-edition collector's item, worth way more than my dress. If you ask Elena, I'm sure she can find you an exact copy of the gown."
Jane stared at Elena in utter shock. She had no idea Elena had pulled off something like that.
But then again... she must have used Sean's money and connections to do it.
