For the next two days, Jane locked herself in her room, refusing to eat or drink.
Lauren and Gavin were pacing the floors in sheer panic.
Jane had promised to solve the debt issue, but so far, nothing had happened.
Meanwhile, Old Mrs. Whelan was breathing down their necks, demanding updates.
They were caught between a rock and a hard place.
"Should you go in and check on her?" Gavin asked, glancing at his wife.
"You do it. I don't dare," Lauren muttered. "The way she looked the other day, she looked like she wanted to murder someone. I'm scared."
"You're her mother! What are you afraid of? Is she actually going to eat you? She promised to fix this mess, so she needs to do it! Mom is pressing us hard, and until this money issue is resolved, I can't get a wink of sleep!"
Just as they were arguing, the bedroom door swung open.
The two of them jumped.
Seeing Jane standing there, the air grew incredibly awkward.
"Jane..."
"Don't worry," Jane interrupted flatly. "I'm going to the Sinclair estate to beg them. I won't drag you into this."
Without another word, she walked out.
She had heard their entire conversation through the door.
It just proved her point—they didn't care about her well-being at all. They only cared about avoiding the fallout.
Standing in front of the towering gates of the lavish Sinclair estate, Jane looked up at the glittering mansion and felt a profound sense of sorrow.
If only she had been born into a powerful family like this, no one would ever look down on her.
A moment later, the Sinclair butler walked out to the gate.
"I'm sorry, Miss Whelan, but Miss Sinclair said she refuses to see you. Just bring the millions you owe, and there's nothing else to discuss."
Jane's heart sank. Evelyn really was that ruthless.
She had come hoping to plead her case in person, begging Evelyn for mercy.
She was even willing to drop to the ground and beg for forgiveness if that's what it took.
She didn't have millions of dollars, and she had already lost all her dignity anyway.
