Usually, she acted so high and mighty, but it was all an act!
To cover her tracks, she even got out a mile away from the company. Did she think no one would notice?
Arriving at the office, Theresa ran into Charles at the time clock.
Charles clocked in, his scrutinizing gaze fixed on Theresa.
"Charles, it's early in the morning. What is your problem? Is there something on my face? Why are you staring at me?" Theresa said irritably.
"Theresa Graham, I really couldn't tell. I didn't know you were that kind of person."
"What kind of person? What do you mean?"
"For money, you'll really do anything. You act so virtuous in front of me, but I didn't realize your appetite was so big. I underestimated you!"
"You're insane."
Theresa ignored him and went straight into the office.
A little later, Rachel Ward arrived. Seeing Theresa every day now made her irritable.
If Theresa didn't leave soon, she would be the one leaving.
"Get ready, morning meeting!" Rachel announced to everyone.
Soon, the team gathered in the conference room. The purpose of the meeting was to report on the previous week's work and discuss upcoming tasks.
"Next, we have a very important product sales proposal to create. You all need to be on your game. Who wants to take this on?" Rachel scanned the room.
No one spoke.
Nobody wanted to do a job that required pulling all-nighters with no overtime pay.
Just hearing the word "proposal" gave them a headache.
"Since there are no volunteers... Theresa Graham, you do it. If you don't do it well, you're fired," Rachel said.
"Ms. Ward, but I've never done a proposal before. I'm not familiar with this area..."
"If you're not familiar, then learn. Do I need to teach you myself? The company doesn't pay idlers!"
Theresa fell silent.
