Leaning with both hands on the counter, she stared at her reflection in the mirror.

She understood perfectly what Gideon and York had been saying, even if others didn't.

But tonight was the welcome party Peter and Darleen had thrown for her. She couldn't just leave early.

Claudia took several deep breaths, trying to rally her spirits.

Darleen walked up beside her and asked cautiously, "Claudia, did my brother do something to wrong you? Is that why you're not marrying him?"

Claudia turned off the water and sighed under her breath.

Now, no one was willing to believe that she genuinely wanted to part ways with him.

Rae stepped forward, concerned. "Claudia, are you alright?"

She turned to Darleen. "Darleen, after the Watkins family went bankrupt, I relied on your brother. I liked him, but I was clinging to him like a lifeline. That wasn't love. Your brother helped me, took care of me, and has always seen me as a sister. We've already agreed to be like siblings for life."

Darleen nodded, only half-convinced.

Claudia sighed, weary to her bones.

After chatting for a bit, the three women headed back to the private room.
