Gideon's gaze flickered toward Claudia. "You guessed right," he said in a gentle tone. "I do have someone I like."
His words sent a fresh wave of teasing through the private room.
Claudia's heart leaped into her throat. She was terrified Gideon was about to make some 'bold' announcement.
York's deep-set eyes remained fixed on Claudia's reaction. Seeing her nervous, guilty expression, his thoughts became a tangled mess.
Peter seized the opportunity to press further. "Mr. Gideon, you've kept this well hidden! Which family's young lady is she? Is she someone I know?"
"Mr. Peter, please don't tease me," Gideon replied. "She's an exceptional person, and I like her very much. I'm still working on pursuing her."
The room erupted in another round of playful jeers.
Claudia secretly let out a sigh of relief. At least he hadn't publicly demanded she take responsibility.
Seeing the tension leave Claudia's body, York quietly averted his gaze.
It was Gideon's turn. He spun the bottle, and it came to a stop pointing directly at York.
Suddenly, everyone was energized.
"Mr. Harvest," Peter said to Gideon, "let me ask the question for you."
Rae Blake also chimed in. "Gideon, I have a question for Mr. Ferguson! Let me ask!"
Another young man pushed forward. "Mr. Gideon, how about I ask for you?"
...
Seeing the frenzied excitement on everyone's faces, Claudia shrank in her seat like a timid mouse, her hands clenched tightly in her lap. These were all her and York's mutual friends; any question they asked would undoubtedly be about her.
Gideon smiled. "I've finally earned this opportunity. I have a question of my own for Mr. Ferguson."
York sat calmly beside Claudia and met Gideon's gaze. "Please, ask."
