While York was upstairs on a call, Claudia slipped out of the house.
She went to visit her parents.
That evening, York came to pick her up for the trip to the Ferguson Mansion, bringing a trove of expensive health supplements for her parents as well.
Once in the car, Claudia closed her eyes and rested, not exchanging a single word with York.
He didn't try to talk to her either, his attention fixed on his phone screen as if he were chatting with someone.
As the car slowly drove through the gates of the Ferguson Mansion, Claudia followed silently behind York into the living room.
Old Mr. Ferguson, York's parents, and Darleen were all there.
Seeing Claudia, Darleen quickly got up and came over, whispering to her brother and Claudia, "Grandpa's furious. You two better be careful."
Claudia heard York let out a soft scoff and couldn't help but look at him. His jaw was clenched, and the look he gave the old man was one of pure animosity.
Claudia quickly looked away.
Years ago, Old Mr. Ferguson had broken up him and Ann. That had led to Ann spending six years abroad and giving birth to his son out of wedlock. He was only keeping Claudia around for now to protect his reputation and maintain stability, but it meant his beloved Ann was labeled a mistress, and their child was illegitimate. He must be filled with so much hatred.
"The Young Lady of the Ferguson family, working as a mere assistant in a hospital. What do you think people will say about us?"
Claudia snapped back to reality at the sound of York's father, Sewell, speaking.
Just as Claudia was about to explain, York took her hand and spoke first. "Dad, I'm the one who told Claudia to get a job. If there's a problem, you can take it up with me."
Old Mr. Ferguson slammed his cane on the floor, the sound echoing through the room. "Quit that job immediately. If you want to work, you can work at the Ferguson Group."
