As Claudia moved closer, her mother asked weakly, "Claudia, did you and York have a fight?"

Claudia looked down, avoiding her mother's gaze. "No, Mom, we're fine."-

Just then, her father returned to the room with York.

Jessica's face lit up. "York, you're so busy. You didn't have to come."

York set down a basket of supplements. "Mom, I've contacted a top cardiology specialist for you. We'll have him do a full check-up before you're discharged."

Felix looked at his son-in-law with unconcealed pride. "York, you're always so thoughtful. We don't know what we would've done without you all these years."

York walked over to the bed, his eyes landing on Claudia's obviously swollen eyes. "Dad, we're family. Please, don't say things like that."

Claudia stood up to give him her seat, but he gently pushed her back down. "I'm fine standing."

Sitting by the bed, Claudia watched the happy scene between York and her parents, unable to bear it. She had to look away.

Three years ago, the Watkins family had gone bankrupt, drowning in debt. York had defied public opinion to not only pay off their debts and provide for her parents, but also to send her younger brother to an elite private school. On top of all that, he had honored their marriage agreement and married her.

Back then, she had naively thought that he must have some feelings for her.

It was only later, after overhearing a conversation between him and his father, that she understood the truth. Marrying her had been a calculated decision.

York had told his father that in business, reputation and integrity are everything. By helping the Watkins family in their time of need, he could kill two birds with one stone, gaining both a good name and a strategic advantage.

He had been right. After their marriage, his reputation became the Ferguson Group's best advertisement.

That was also when she realized that he had never gotten over his old flame. She was his second choice, a compromise, a matter of convenience.
