York had no fear of Claudia leaving him. He knew she wouldn't.
But she was stubborn and prone to drama. He knew she would continue to cause trouble.
Peter ruthlessly shattered his illusion. "From what I hear, Claudia's already asked for a divorce."
York raised an eyebrow. "Darleen told you?"
Peter didn't deny it. "Buddy, you need to be careful. If Claudia really divorces you, you'll never find another woman who loves you as much as she does."
York's tone was certain. "Don't worry. You'll be six feet under before you see the day Claudia and I get divorced."
Seeing he couldn't get through, Peter changed the subject. "Seriously, this Ann. She knows you're married, yet she won't even let you explain. Doesn't that make it clear? She wants you two to split up."
York's expression hardened, his voice deepening. "Peter, don't talk about Ann like that."
Peter sat up straight. "I'm not badmouthing her, I'm stating a fact. What she's doing is clearly meant to drive a wedge between you and your wife."
York lit a cigarette, the smoke blurring his features.
After a long moment, he spoke, "Well, Ann comes from a humble background. She's just simple that way. She's simple-minded. Back then, to ensure I could inherit the Ferguson Group, my grandfather forced her to go abroad and marry someone else. She's suffered a lot for my sake over the years. I owe her."
He continued, "She was abused for years. Her health is poor, and she's developed severe depression. I have to take care of her."
Peter smirked. "Just admit it. you still have feelings for her."
