"Claudia!" York reached out to pull her into his arms.
She shoved him away with a desperate scream. "York, what in the world am I to you? If you love her so much, why did you marry me in the first place?!"
York grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his embrace. "Claudia, I wasn't careful enough about these things. I'll try to make sure nothing like this happens again."
His words caused Claudia's fragile control to shatter completely.
Not careful enough? That's his takeaway? After she caught him cheating, his big realization was that he should've hidden it better.
With all her strength, she pushed him away and turned to flee.
York caught her arm, pulling her back. He felt her body trembling and held her tightly against him.
An image flashed in Claudia's mind—York shielding that girl in his arms—and a wave of nausea washed over her. She struggled violently, pushing against his chest. "York, don't touch me! You're dirty!"
York's face finally darkened. He held her fast, giving her no room to escape. "Claudia," he said, his voice low, "I'm not as disgusting as you think."
The feeling of being in his arms was unbearable. She could even smell another woman's perfume on him. Unable to break free, she started to sob. "York, I'm begging you, okay? The lying, the cheating — it turns my stomach. I can't handle anything dirty. Don't! Just get away from me. Don't touch me — you're making me sick!"
York hadn't expected such a strong reaction from her. He held her tighter, trying to soothe her. "Claudia, stop this. It's not what you think."
"Ugh!" Claudia retched.
York scooped her up and carried her to the bathroom, where she leaned over the toilet, dry-heaving.
Watching her, York's expression grew complex.
There was no way she could be pregnant — he'd used protection every time recently, after all.
