No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 11

"I was the one who called the ambulance. My brother, he—"

Darleen, ever the fast talker, realized her mistake too late when she saw the look on Claudia's face.

Claudia closed her eyes, her heart turning to ash.

Of course. His old flame was back, and she'd brought him a five-year-old son.

He had no time to care whether she lived or died.

Her heart ached terribly, and she clutched at her chest.

Curling into a ball, she murmured, "Wendy, Darleen, my mother just had bypass surgery. I don't want her to see me in the hospital. Can you please take me home?"

Wendy quickly sent her daughter downstairs to get the car. "The doctor said you fainted from low blood sugar combined with stress and anger. It's better for you to rest at home anyway, it's more comfortable."

Wendy added, "I'll handle this. I've already called York and told him to get back here immediately."

On the way home, Claudia once again reminded Wendy and Darleen not to interfere in her relationship with York.

No matter how much it hurt, she had to be the one to end it.

After they got home, Darleen and Wendy stayed with Claudia all day, feeding her medicine and nourishing soup.

But York never showed up.

She slept fitfully for most of the day, and by evening, Claudia had regained a little strength.

She finally managed to persuade Wendy and Darleen to go home and rest.

Standing in front of the vanity, she looked at her reflection in the mirror. In just a few short days, she had become so haggard she barely looked human.

After squeezing toothpaste onto her brush and cleaning her teeth, Claudia went to put the tumbler back in its place.

With a sharp crack, the cup shattered on the floor.

Claudia slowly crouched down, picking up a piece of ceramic. The couple's photo on the cup, her and York, was now in a million tiny pieces.

She had ordered these matching tumblers online for their first wedding anniversary. The picture was a selfie she'd secretly taken while sneaking up on York.

York had called it childish and refused to use it.

She begged him for a whole week, and only after she cried herself to sleep one night did he reluctantly agree.
