Miracle Cutie (Amelia and Benjamin) novel Chapter 66

Chapter 66 The Battle Over One Spoon of Medicine

Amelia was sweating bullets trying to calm Nina down.

Benjamin had his hands full just keeping the wriggling, crying bundle secure.

“We’ll be home soon, we’ll get you all cleaned up and into fresh clothes. Here, rinse your mouth, and you won’t feel stinky anymore.

“Come on, baby, almost there.”

Amelia coaxed patiently, but nothing worked.

Finally, she gave up, peeled off Nina’s soiled little outfit, and wrapped her in Benjamin’s suit jacket.

The jacket carried that faint, cool scent he always had.

Nina’s chubby naked body snuggled inside it and, miracle of miracles, she decided this was acceptable.

When they reached the house, Benjamin carried the jacket-burrito Nina out of the car.

She buried her tear-streaked face in his chest.

“Daddy… Nina stinky?” she sobbed.

Benjamin just smiled down at her instead of answering.

Honestly? Yeah, a little.

But before the truth could leave his mouth, Amelia’s fingers shot out like lightning and pinched the exact spot on his waist he hated being touched.

She was desperate-she was terrified he’d say something blunt and break Nina’s heart.

Benjamin turned his head and gave her a look.

Amelia instantly widened her wet, pleading eyes, pressed her palm’s together, and gave him the world’s tiniest “please” gesture.

Something about that face suddenly struck him as… cute.

He looked away, voice perfectly neutral. “You’re not stinky.”

With Daddy’s official verdict, Nina finally relaxed.

The family doctor had been waiting. The second they arrived, Nina was whisked off for an exam.

The doctor told them, “Gastroenteritis. Pretty bad. I’m prescribing medicine-give it to her now. No solid food yet; her stomach can’t handle it. Medicine first, then lots of rest.”

The doctor wrote the script and gave the usual warnings.

Amelia rushed off to prepare the dose.

The moment Nina spotted the medicine bowl, panic mode activated. She started kicking in Benjamin’s lap.

“Go! Go now! Daddy, go! Nina go!”

At first, she wanted her dad to walk with her.

When he didn’t move, she tried climbing down to run away herself.

But she didn’t get the chance-Amelia was already walking over with the medicine.

“Nina, this one’s sweet, super yummy,” she said softly.

“Mommy drink! Mommy drink it!”

Nina wasn’t falling for that old trick. She pushed the air with both chubby hands and tried to burrow into Benjamin like a scared hamster.

Amelia continued, “Drink it like a good girl, and Mommy will buy you toys. We’ll go to the amusement park, okay?”

She threw every bribe in the book, but Nina heard exactly zero of them.

After ten minutes of useless coaxing, Amelia took a deep breath and said, “Benjamin. Hold her.”

He didn’t say a word-just gently pinned the flailing limbs.

Amelia steeled herself, pinched Nina’s cheeks, and poured the medicine down.

Nina wailed like the world was ending.

Once every drop was in, Amelia scooped up the hiccupping, gasping little body and showered her tear- soaked face with kisses.

She said gently, “All done, no more medicine. Our Nina is finished, see? Mommy’s got you. Mommy’s got you.”

She paced the room rocking her. Benjamin stayed right beside them the whole time.

Eventually-after what felt like ages-Nina cried herself to sleep.

Amelia let out a sigh of relief and laid her gently on the bed.

She looked at Benjamin and said, “Benjamin, can you stay with her for a bit? I need to wash up.”

Her clothes were soaked with sweat and splashed with medicine.

She wanted to clean up before coming back to sit with Nina.

Benjamin gave a quiet “Mm,” agreeing.

Water began to run in the bathroom.

Benjamin sat by the bed, eyes drifting toward the sound of the shower.
