Chapter 397 Another Episode
He was very disciplined.
After telling Nina to get some rest and that he’d help her find her parents in the morning, Edward went to bed himself.
Seeing him leave, Nina tilted her chubby little head.
“Bye-bye,” she said.
She thought it was a little strange that he wasn’t watching her.
Usually, adults kept a close eye on her.
But it was okay if no one was watching.
Nina could play by herself.
Almost the moment Edward left, Nina climbed down from the chair beside her bed.
Edward had placed it there to help her get up and down..
Her foot still hurt, so she couldn’t walk.
But she could crawl.
She crawled on the floor, touching this and that.
After crawling around the room, she sat for a rest, then crawled out into the hallway.
Her little body seemed to have a built-in radar. She crawled straight to the door of Catherine’s
room.
The door wasn’t locked.
In this estate, no one ever entered a room without knocking.
No, actually, no one ever disturbed Catherine in her private rooms at all.
Inside, perhaps from thinking of Sienna too intensely on this difficult anniversary, Catherine’s condition flared
A tightness gripped her chest. The medicine bottle slipped from her hand and clattered to the floor.

She didn’t have the strength to pick it up.
As her body grew stiff, her life hanging by a thread, Nina crawled into the room.
“Grandma?” she called softly. “We play?”
It was Nina, coming to visit and play with Catherine.
She looked up and saw Catherine’s pale, strained face. She froze for a second.
“Medicine,” Catherine managed to say, pointing to the floor.
Nina understood that word.
She looked at the floor and saw the bottle.
A second later, her chubby hand snatched it up. She held it out to Catherine.
“Grandma. Med,” she said, handing it over quickly.
Catherine grabbed it, opened the bottle, and swallowed two pills.
After taking the medicine, Catherine leaned back against the headboard, eyes closed, waiting
for it to work.
When she opened her eyes again, she felt a weight on the bed.
It was low to the ground.
Nina, hobbling on her sore foot, had managed to stand and climb right up.
Now, an enlarged version of that little face was right in front of her.
“Grandma, see doctow?” Nina asked, her little face full of concern.
Having just been saved by her, and now being stared at with such worried eyes, even the hardest heart couldn’t stay cold.
“I’m fine now. I don’t need a doctor,” Catherine answered.
Nina tilted her head, still watching her suspiciously.
Their eyes met. Nina kept looking at Catherine, and then she pulled something from her pocket.
She handed it to Catherine. “Grandma. Eat?”

What Nina offered was a packet of desiccant-silica gel.
She’d found it while crawling around and thought it was a snack.
She’d been saving it for herself.
Seeing that Catherine had needed medicine, Nina decided to generously share her “treat.”
Catherine looked at the packet. “What is this?” she asked.
Nina blinked. “Yummy. Nina eat,” she explained.
Catherine’s expression changed.
She reached out and gently pried Nina’s mouth open. “You ate this already?”
Nina squirmed, uncomfortable with her mouth being held open.
“No!” she protested.
She was still holding the packet out. “No more,” she added sadly.
This was her only snack.
If she
gave
it to Catherine, she’d have none left.
