Chapter 396 Overly Familiar Child
Even though her fever had broken, Nina’s little face was still a bit flushed.
Finished
She looked up at Catherine with big, round, damp eyes. Her chubby face was pretty and sweet.
Catherine didn’t like children, but Nina’s face wasn’t unpleasant to look at.
Especially Nina’s nose and mouth-they reminded her strangely of her younger sister, Benjamin’s mother, Sienna Graham,
Sienna was just as beautiful as Nina.
The two stared at each other. Nina, growing impatient, wriggled toward Catherine’s lap.
Edward had underestimated her squirming power and didn’t hold her tight enough.
Nina launched herself forward. It looked like she might topple over with no one to catch her. Catherine’s eyelids twitched. Without quite knowing why, she reached out and caught her.
The action surprised even Catherine herself.
She looked down at Nina, now settled in her lap.
Nina felt immediately at home with Catherine.
Sitting in her lap, Nina blinked up at her, then gave a little grin.
“Grandma,” Nina said softly to Catherine. “Nina eat?”
Catherine was stunned.
She had a strong presence.

Usually, even adults were somewhat wary of her, let alone children.
This was the first time she’d encountered a child who acted so familiarly with her right away.
She gave a faint, non-committal nod.
The servant in the kitchen soon brought out a fresh meal.
Nina stayed on Catherine’s lap; she refused to get down.
However, she didn’t ask Catherine to feed her.

She grabbed a spoon herself and ate quite a bit.
One of the dishes was something often made in the house, but Catherine never touched it.
It was a dish Sienna had loved.
Nina loved it, too. Near the end, she even scooped up a spoonful and offered it to Catherine.
“You eat?” she said.
With her little belly full, Nina started trying to feed Catherine.
Catherine didn’t eat the offered food.
Seeing Nina was finished, Catherine glanced up at Edward.
She was signaling for him to take this overly familiar child away.
Edward understood the look and reached to take Nina.
But Nina wouldn’t go.
“Hold Nina?” she asked, still preferring Catherine’s lap.
Nina’s fondness for Catherine was obvious.
She liked Catherine, but Catherine still hadn’t accepted her.
Catherine understood Nina’s language perfectly well.
She just had no intention of conversing with Nina.
“Let me take you to rest,” Edward said.
He didn’t dare upset Catherine. Honestly, he was shocked by her reaction so far.
Edward never would have imagined Catherine allowing a child to sit in her lap for a meal.
Catherine is being uncharacteristically tolerant of this child.
But Edward didn’t want to test how far that tolerance went.
He picked Nina up firmly and carried her away, out of Catherine’s sight.
After they left, Catherine didn’t head back to bed.
Today was Sienna’s anniversary.

Catherine couldn’t sleep.
She rose from her chair and went straight to Sienna’s room.
Catherine didn’t allow anyone to follow.
Sienna’s room had been kept exactly the same for years.
Catherine sat on Sienna’s bed and ran her hand over the bedsheet.
If Sienna were still alive, lying in this soft bedding… she would half-open her eyes when she saw me come in. She’d lazily bring that beautiful face closer.
She’d nuzzle my hand, just like a sleepy cat.
Catherine pictured Sienna there. The longer she imagined, the more an ache grew in her chest.
She didn’t pay it much mind.
Her body had its issues; sometimes she needed medicine.
At this point, she felt she hadn’t reached the stage where she needed medication.
Catherine lay down and slept in Sienna’s room.
Meanwhile, Nina, who had been carried off by Edward, was now in another room.
