William hesitated. “I’m with Nina right now.”

Nina hated Ryan’s guts.

Ryan knew it too. He paused, then laughed it off. “No big deal. Once I get there, I’ll just stay out of her way while we talk.”

William heard the eagerness in his voice and didn’t have the heart to say no again. He told Ryan to come straight to the ranch.

The second the call ended, Ryan grabbed the two men who’d been shadowing him and sped over.

He told them, “Told you William wouldn’t ditch me. Last night was just a fluke!

“We’re heading there now. How you convince him after hat is up to you guys.”

Ryan and those men arrived in record time.

William’s brows knitted when he saw the two strangers.

“Ryan, who are they?” he asked.

Ryan replied, “Friends I made in Marisavia. Both work for the International Angel Charity Organization.”

While the adults chatted in the rest area, Nina was busy shoveling sand with her little pink spade. She looked up and spotted a few bigger kids playing nearby.

Nina loved playing with kids taller than her, so she grabbed her bucket and toddled over.

“Play… together!”

The words barely left her mouth when a boy in overalls maybe five or six-snatched the pink spade right out of her hand.

Nina blinked, stunned. “It mine!”

The boy completely ignored her.

He passed the spade to another kid about his age, a little girl in a pink dress who had her own pink bucket nearby.

The girl took the spade, squatted down, and started using it herself instead of giving it back.

Nina shouted again. Still, no one returned it.

A staff member noticed and started walking over.

Nina didn’t wait for the grown-up. Her mouth crumpled. She reached out to grab her spade back.

“Mine. No give you,” she said.

Nina guarded her things fiercely. She never let anyone take her stuff!

She tugged hard, but the boy in overalls saw her coming and shoved her straight to the ground.

He snapped, “Get lost. Just go get another one. Don’t come over here.”

Nina fell backward into the sand. The bucket she was still holding smacked her own little face.

The hit made her burst into loud tears on the spot.

She cried a few times, then scrambled back up, still sobbing.

She wasn’t some quiet, good girl who just took it when pushed.

On the contrary, she had a huge temper.

After getting up, Nina lowered her head and charged full-force into the boy who stole her spade.

The boy only raised one arm to block, thinking it would be nothing.

He got careless. He underestimated how strong Nina could be. She knocked him flat on his butt.

Nina kept crying while she crashed into him, then she lunged for her spade again.

“Mine, mine!” She repeated that the spade belonged to her.

The girl in the pink dress, who was using it, saw her coming and gripped it tighter, still refusing to hand it

over.

The staff member finally reached them.

The staff member grabbed Nina first. “Baby, no fighting

He held her gently and coaxed, “No more crying, okay? Tell me what you want.”

Nina pointed a chubby finger at the pink spade, tears pouring down.

“Mine… It mine!”

Seeing it was about the spade, the staff member didn’t ask the girl to return it.

He smiled kindly, “You want a spade? I’ll get you another one.”

He always carried spares. He pulled out a brand-new pink spade and offered it to Nina.

Nina smacked it away with a wet plop. “No.”

She kept crying and wriggled free from his arms, still trying to grab her own.

Her spade had stickers on it-stickers William bought her.

The stickers were so pretty! Nina had stuck several on herself!
