Marissa said, "Jane, rape is criminal offense, and I can't just drop the charges whenever I want. With solid evidence against you, the police have already handed the case over to the court. There's nothing I can do."
Then, she paused momentarily before glaring at Jane, who was kneeling befor here.
Her voice was as cold as ice when she continued, "Even if I could drop those charges, I wouldn't do so. I'm not a saint. Do you really think I'd drop the charges after everything you did to me? Dream on!"
Not only had Jane drugged Marissa, but she had also sent six men to rape her and requested that those men film the act. She was pure evil!
Marissa was shaking with rage. She never thought that someone she had once considered her closest friend would actually work with someone else to ruin her.
When Marissa claimed that she could not drop the charges and did not intend to do so, Jane immediately paused.
Jane then looked up and glared at Marissa. Her hostile expression and hateful gaze were miles away from the pitiful expression she had plastered on just moments ago.
"So the charges can't be dropped anymore? Marissa, you can just drop that fake act of yours!" Jane's eyes flashed with revulsion.
"Have you truly ever treated me as one of your friends? Throughout the years, you'd just hand me the food you couldn't finish, the clothes you couldn't wear, some used handbags, and used makeup products. What do you take me for? Do you think I'm a dumpster? Or am I just a pet to you?"
Marissa froze momentarily before frowning and looking at Jane in disbelief.
"How could you think that way? I've always known that your family was struggling with money, so I had always tried to keep an eye out for you.
"I'd purposely buy an extra portion of snacks for you, so how could you claim that I was just giving you my leftovers? Also, I purposely bought those clothes I gave you according to your measurements. They were all brand new.
"In fact, all those bags and cosmetics I gave you were brand new. I only claimed that I didn't like them as I didn't want to burden you.
"Honestly, I had purposely handpicked everything I ever gave you. I just didn't want you to feel burdened with the idea that you would need to repay the favor.
"Jane, I've always treated you as one of my closest friends. I never thought you'd twist the kindness I showed you to such an extent."
…
Once they left the police station, Marissa's gaze turned dull. She looked numb, like a puppet being dragged around with a string.
Tessa helped her into her own car and turned to Wynn, who was sitting in the driver's seat."Wynn, I need you to send Ms. Scott back."
Tessa and Marissa sat in the backseat, and Marissa remained quiet throughout the entire ride.
Worried, Tessa could not help but spare her a few looks.
Seemingly able to sense Tessa's concern for her, or perhaps Marissa just needed someone to listen to her vent all the pain in her heart, she began to speak to Tessa after being silent for a very long time.
"It wasn't like that," Marissa said softly, her voice sounding like she was moments away from breaking.
