Hudson was about to speak when Charles lunged over, snatched the phone, and hung up.

“Hudson, what are you thinking? Your wife is running away, and you’re worrying about Amara? Do you think Jade hasn’t been disappointed enough? You want to add fuel to the fire?”

Hudson took his phone back and leaned against the wall in a heavy silence.

“Amara is being unreasonable. You’re not a doctor; why does she keep calling you?”

Charles scratched the back of his head and paced the room in frustration.

“Or do you actually want to divorce Jade? If you do, then just sign the papers.”

“I told you.”

Hudson’s brow furrowed sharply, his entire being rejecting that possibility.

“Jade is the only woman suited to be Mrs. Walter. I have no intention of divorcing her.”

“Then go find her!” Charles couldn’t stand it and dragged him toward the door.

“She shredded that sketchbook and took off her ring; her mental state is at a breaking point.”

Hudson’s face darkened at that. He recalled Jade’s reckless look with the scissors.

Previously he was being dragged by Charles, but now his pace was much faster.

Dragging her luggage, Jade reached Sycamore Road, where the apartment her mother left her

was.

The location was decent, with convenient transportation and local amenities.

However, it was in an old district; the environment was a bit noisy.

Jade followed the address on the deed and took the elevator to the fifth floor.

She put on a protective mask first, then pulled out the old keys to open the door.

As the door opened, wind sent dust from the empty apartment swirling through the air.

“Cough, cough, cough—”

She squeezed her throat, suppressing the itch, and walked over to open the windows.

The apartment hadn’t been lived in for years; a thick layer of dust covered everything.

Jade looked around; the furniture and major appliances were all still there.

But it had been so long that she wasn’t sure if they were even functional.

She needed to clean it thoroughly before testing anything.

Considering her physical condition, Jade hired a professional cleaner.

Once everything was arranged, her exhausted body finally hit its limit.

The throbbing pain in her abdomen was becoming more intense by the minute.

She gritted her teeth and went to a nearby hospital to explain her condition.

The doctor asked if there was any bleeding. She said no, indicating it was mild.

The doctor put her on an IV drip and told her she needed absolute rest.

Jade agreed to everything and leaned back against the hospital pillow.

It wasn’t that she didn’t care about her baby and insisted on being stubborn.

It was that she couldn’t stop; she had to draw a clear line with Hudson Walter.

She knew Hudson would be at the hospital with Amara and her daughter.

No one knew better than her how biased Hudson was toward Amara and that child.

Every single direct confrontation with Amara had cost her dearly.

First the nursery, then her mother’s only photo, then the life in her womb…

She didn’t dare imagine what the next price would be if she stayed.

She knew she couldn’t compete with Hudson, so she took the keys while he was busy. Otherwise, with Hudson’s domineering personality, she might lose her only shelter.

So she risked worsening her medical condition to get these things done.
