Hudson took a subtle step back, avoiding her touch as he changed the subject. “I have to go. If you need anything while I’m away, tell Rosa. She’ll handle it.”

Amara’s hand fell to her side, empty. She didn’t look embarrassed, just naturally tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

“Cortney and I will be fine. I’m more concerned about Ms. Merchant. Things were already tense with you here. Who knows what might happen with you gone for so long?”

Hudson frowned. “I’ll remind her.”

Kevin, standing nearby, glanced at his watch. “Mr. Walter, we’re running short on time.”

Hudson gave a slight nod and turned back to Amara. “I’m heading out.”

Just as he turned, Amara stepped forward and gave him a quick, light hug from behind, releasing him just as fast. “Have a safe trip.”

Hudson showed no reaction, simply nodded again before leaving with Kevin.

After Hudson’s car had pulled away, Amara let her gaze drift casually upward. A flash of white fabric disappeared from the upstairs hallway.

A slow smile curved her lips. Feeling pleased, she went to Cortney’s room.

Upstairs in the guest room, Jade took a sip of water. The scene she’d just witnessed from the hallway replayed vividly in her mind.
